Choosing the right photo is important to get the best results.  Whether your photographic image is a scenic, portrait or still-life, here are a few basic tips to follow.

Canvas Gallery Wrap – Make sure the subject of your photo is clear and will fit the size you’re interested in.  The frames we use are 5cm thick, which means 5cm on all four sides of your photo would be gallery-wrapped around the frame.  We can also stretch your canvas over a 2.5cm frame on request.  Please state whether you’d like your photo gallery-wrapped when you place your order.

Resolution – The ideal resolution for printing on canvas is usually at least 150dpi, but this can depend on the size you choose.  A 50cm x 40cm canvas print would need an image of about 3000×2362 pixels.  If you’re not sure whether your photo is suitable to be printed as a canvas print, then email it to us for free photo consultation, where we’ll check your photo to find out how much it can be enlarged.

Cropping – Canvas prints from photos are made to order and we offer almost any size and aspect ratio.  Popular aspect ratios we produce include 3:2, 4:3, square and panoramic format prints.  When choosing a size make sure it fits the aspect ratio of your photo to avoid any cropping.  If cropping is required we’ll contact you straight away to send a proof showing how much would be cropped and we’ll give you the option of selecting a different size.

We use a heavy weight 340gsm real woven artist canvas which has a matte finish.  The canvas is heat sealed and then stretched over a 5cm x 5cm Scandinavian Redwood frame.  Every canvas is individually made finished to a very high standard and then shipped by over night courier.  Canvas art prints are the perfect addition to your home or office.

As we use 5cm thick frames it means that a substantial amount of your photo could be gallery-wrapped around the sides on small canvases.  This is when a 2.5cm frame is sometimes a better choice, as it means that only 2.5cm of your photo on all four sides is wrapped around the frame.

All DesignerPrint canvas prints are stretched over a hand made best quality Redwood frame.  The edges of the frame are bevelled at a 75-degree angle, mitred, glued and screwed.  The canvas is stretched tight as a drum around the frame, and it’s then neatly stapled at the back.  Every print is delivered ready to hang.

There’s an incredibly wide range of options to choose from when using our block mounting service.  We can mount canvas, semi-gloss and glossy photo quality prints with a lustre finish onto mdf blocks.

If you choose to have your image printed onto photo paper it will be vacuum-sealed and mounted onto the block using dry mount tissue, as well as being laminated to provide protection.  The edges of every block mount are bevelled at 45 degrees, and to create a more stylish way to present your image the sides can be painted matte black or white.

Canvas prints are traditionally stretched over a frame, however we can mount canvas onto MDF as well.  Your photo on canvas is heat-sealed to begin with and then mounted onto the block using dry mount tissue.  To finish the canvas block mount your photo can be gallery-wrapped around the sides of the block.
